Leazes Park

Leazes Park occupies a unique place in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. It has provided recreational and respite facilities for the inhabitants of the city for over 130 years. Its location means that it is used by those working in the city, by hospital patients and visitors, by University students and city centre shoppers as well as by the surrounding communities.

Urban Green Newcastle is the organisation responsible for the management and upkeep of Leazes Park on behalf of Newcastle City Council.

In recent years the biggest challenge for all Newcastle’s parks has been the dramatic reduction in the city’s parks budget as a result of reduced local government funding. In response to this Newcastle City Council set up Urban Green Newcastle in 2019 to manage the city’s parks and allotments, including Leazes Park, on the council’s behalf.

Urban Green Newcastle is an independent charity and more information can be found at www.urbangreennewcastle.org

The Friends of Leazes Park are committed to working together with Urban Green to help wherever we can looking for new and innovative ways to fund and care for this special 'People's Park' at the heart of the city.
